What Makes You Happy?
I have found that it really doesn’t matter what I do, as long as it is something that makes me happy.
I was preparing for this Blog, and looking for the perfect picture & a quote that would express exactly what I was thinking as I always do. Only today, I couldn’t seem to find just the right one. I thought I would express that sort of mystic of Life/Work Balance . The emotion I was feeling & the message I wanted to send, was much more profound than I realized. We have been inter-active on the “Wearing too Many Hats” Series about Overwhelm, Life, & achieving Balance. I desperately searched for the picture that would express this, perhaps a feeling of peace. I read through numerous quotes that pointed out how & what we needed to do to get balance in our life. To work less & relax more. And then it occurred to me “NO”. That is not the message. I accidently came across the picture of the Flower I used for this article and in that moment, for that moment, it made me happy! That is the greatest feeling. It didn’t cost anything, it wasn’t planned, and all I had to do was be in the moment!
What I have learned from putting a lot of thought, research, & life experience into myself, is that what we do is not what overwhelms us. I have read through the comments you have added to it, the answers to the questions, and have come to a realization. How many hours we work or don’t work is not the reason we get overwhelmed. How many vacations we get to take or don’t get to take doesn’t necessarily make us have a balanced life. I don’t know if it was an “Ah Ha” moment or just “Duh”, but I now know that I am not overwhelmed when I am listening to the desires of my heart. When I follow my dreams & make my dreams my reality. So simple. Why then do we spend so much time pulling our life off course. Making it more difficult than it needs to be. Running around like chickens without heads all the time not really knowing why we are doing what we are doing. You see it doesn’t matter if I am working long hours, or riding my horse, or walking on a beach, because each of those activities makes me happy. I love doing all of those things!
It is now my belief that no one or nothing we do actually Overwhelms us. We overwhelm ourselves and there are many reasons we do. Here are just some:
• We work at jobs we don’t like.
• We work for managers or leaders we don’t believe in.
• We never stop to appreciate the simplicity of nature in
the moment of the day.
• We forget how lucky we are.
• We don’t stop to say thank-you.
• We are not open to learn & improve.
• We are afraid to change our mind.
• We quit before we give it a chance.
• We do too much of what we don’t like
• We don’t do enough of what we do like.
• We don’t play nice.
• We resist change.
